Elkhart, WI

Tom scheduled our next week's stop in Plymouth Rock camp ground, between Plymouth and Elkhart, WI because of central location to several areas.  The camp ground was huge!  We had to drive about 8 tenths of a mile back into our spot.  The majority of the camp are permanant trailers, etc for enjoying the nearby lakes.  They also had two or three campgrounds for tents and no utility units, two pools, playgrounds, organized activities.  They had a Maudi Gras celebration this past weekend and this next weekend is to be Christmas.  How fun.

Little did we know that the week we had scheduled was race weekend.  Elkhart is famous for their two historic race circuits and is listed in the National Register.  Opening in 1955,  the permanent four mile, closed road race course was opened.  This is where the races take place now.  On Friday night, the police escorted racers in a parade through the town streets lined with admirers.

We even heard that "Dr. McDreamy" was there Monday racing.  Sorry we missed it

On Saturday night, they blocked off one of the streets for a car show.  It looked like there was some kind of competition but not sure but really enjoyed looking at all of them in a beautiful setting.
